The bill of sale should include:
- Seller's full legal name, address
- Buyer's full legal name, address
- Vehicle year, make, model, body type, VIN
- Odometer reading
- Sale price
- Date of sale
- Both signatures
Sales tax implications
New Mexico's Motor Vehicle Excise Tax: 4% of the sale price (or fair market value, whichever is greater). The buyer pays at the MVD at title transfer. Different from typical sales tax structure.

- Odometer disclosure: federally required for vehicles under 20 years old
- Emissions testing: required in Bernalillo County (Albuquerque) for vehicles 1986+
